it seems as though xanga became extinct for most of us around the end of 2006/beginning of 2007...did we all grow up and start journaling for ourselves instead of needing the constant affirmation of our thoughts with people's eProps and comments, or did facebook just grow, period?

not that i expect anyone to show up back in xanga world to answer these questions...

...but just in case you do...do you remember when these smileys were SO cool?!

Anybody still use this place?

It just occurred to me this evening that xanga exists (or at least that it existed). I'm wondering if in the world of facebook anyone still visits this place.

Do you?

honestly, xanga feels like a different world.  but i wanted to do some journaling and haven't been on the computer much recently (and this chair sticks to me less than my bed does in this weather) so...here i am.  back in xanga world.

today i
  • went to church at 6(ish)
  • went to breakfast at L&S with Elaina (yay french toast, cinnamon, powdered sugar, and coffee that I didn't need!)
  • picked beans and spinach
  • learned to make amazing squash casserole from Junior (who forced me to taste it and kept gleefully pointing out that I had learned something new - which was great - I was just as glad!)
  • had some generally awkward Mike/random guy who showed up at soup kitchen interactions...really, it's not necessary to squeeze my side when greeting me or start singing a Carpenter's song while putting down chairs with me
  • also ran into Catherine, daughter of the teacher I student taught with last fall, at Soup Kitchen, which was very cool, and also spent a few moments being very glad that Brian exists.
  • yelled across the street to Joanna on my way to Earth and Tea and stopped and talked to her...she's leaving for Morocco in a few weeks, so we decided we need to hang out sometime before then.  plans are in the works for some evening this week
  • finished walking to Earth and Tea and sat outside on the steps of the Masonic Temple talking with Elaina and Nick
  • walked to the Daily Grind where I drank free water and finished Through Painted Deserts
  • started walking home and was yelled to from across the street by Hannah; stopped and talked to her for a while, walked to The Good Earth (closed), and then walked to my house with her, where we ate Irish soda bread with apple butter and talked about conventions and life
  • drove Hannah home on my way to my garden
  • picked beans and watered things with the luxuriously long hose that appeared at the garden (previously I had to haul water in buckets)
  • ate leftovers (including leftover pancakes that I froze) while sitting on my front steps paging through a cookbook and listening to one of my neighbors play the bagpipes
  • sat on my roof
  • talked to Jesse about the garden...will be picking up squash from them sometime soon, and perhaps we (along with Maria, Derrick, and Rebekah) will can tomatoes together when they come in
  • cleaned up my room while singing Jennifer Knapp The Way I Am at the top of my lungs
  • went for a brief jog
  • took a shower
  • talked to my roommate
  • typed all this while talking to some friends on gmail chat
Wow!  I'm glad today happened.  It was good.

(you don't have to care about any of this, I just wanted somewhere to record it)

Another fun thing: yesterday I had a bunch of people over for lunch after church.  People included: Dawn, Alex, Matthew, Brian, Norman and Fanny, David, Dave, Shanta.  We ate yellow squash and zucchini and beans from my garden and rice and pork that Dave brought (courtesy of FL dumpster), and had the rest of my zucchini bread and David's ice cream for dessert.  It was wonderful to have them all, and Dave and Shanta even stayed to do my dishes :)

so, i'm watching part of the miss universe pageant.  i wasn't planning to, but i flipped to it, and was simply astounded by how incredibly similar they all looked.  sure, they were all wearing the same bathing suit, but i doubt they were told they all had to wear their hair the same exact way or wear make-up that made them all look the same.  their skin tones even looked remarkably similar.  and we're talking about women from brazil, india, japan, angola, venezuela, tanzania, nicaragua, usa, mexico, korea? (i missed one as they were parading around in their evening gowns) - they should not all look the same!  the only thing that was encouraging was tanzania - she's completely bald.  she was the only one that really stood out.  there are a few that actually look intelligent or like they're enjoying themselves instead of trying to look seductive and working really hard, but...yeah.  it's weird to see people from all over the world looking the same.

oh, and when usa fell in her evening gown that stood out too.
